January 2024 - New Website

Welcome to the new website for Sky Onion Mastering. The most fun part of building this website was creating 10 Spotify playlists in 10 different categories of music I’ve worked on over the years. You can find those playlists on the Clients page. If you’re looking for interesting music to hear you might find something you like there.

Many upgrades have been made here recently. In September 2023 I upgraded D/A and A/D converters for my analog processing chain, which has improved the sound of every master. I also replaced an analog compressor and equalizer with different units to make a more versatile and cleaner chain. The new gear has been awesome to work with and I believe the sound quality available here now is better than ever before.

In summer 2022 I upgraded my speaker system, which was another large step forward over my previous setup. In spring 2020 my new lathe was installed. Over the last few years my vinyl approach has evolved as well, and right now the cuts are sounding excellent. The lathe is more finely calibrated than it was in 2020, and my file prep routine has improved. The recent Mytek Manhattan D/A converter upgrade also feeds the lathe now, a subtle improvement over my previous Crane Song HEDD Quantum DAC.
